Clinging to independence in a hostile world, the SSC has found itself in the crossfire of corporate war, (mostly) powerless to stop it.
From the Ashes[править | править код]
The collapse of the Third Soviet Union was a brutal and bloody affair, with success costing the people of the Spinward Sector dearly. In the aftermath, a new form of government was needed, and the people banded together to form a coalition of democratic nations, with each planet in the former union forming their own independent government and a separate council to administrate over external affairs being formed. However, as external threats began to grow in strength, especially corporations seeking to exert influence over the Spinward Sector, many powers were pushed upwards into the hands of the council. Now, the planets have only moderate independence, with most governing being handled by the Coalition directly. This has proven to be important against pressure by several bodies against the government.
TerraGov is one of these bodies seeking to control the sector. The two governments have had a close working relationship since the Soviet Collapse, as TerraGov assisted in stabilising the region and combatting the rise in piracy spurred by the economic depression. While it allows the region to remain independent for fear of unrest within the population, it tries its hardest to align the SSC to its values and seeks eventual integration of the sector into the Terran Federation- the SSC has remained cordial but defiant against these attempts so far, however.
The other bodies seeking to control the Spinward Sector are the various megacorporations of human space, who are eager to muscle in on the region and exploit it for their own gain. The SSC finds itself mostly powerless to stop these corporations, being capable only of limiting their worst excesses. However, as TerraGov's interest in the region continues to grow, the SSC is finding itself more and more emboldened to stand up for itself.
