Xeno Tips
Here are some tips curated by Hughgent and other members of the community.
General Tips
- As a xeno, check hive status often.
- As a xeno, you can pounce past window frames and barricades without barbed wires.
- As a xeno, pouncing into a barricade with barbed wire stuns you.
- As a xeno, aging from young to mature gives you the most benefit, further aging has diminishing returns.
- As a xeno, keep resisting to put out fires if you are currently on fire.
- As a xeno, you can melee other xenos on fire on 'help' intent to try to extinguish their fires.
- As a xeno, it's not a good idea to kill hosts during the crash phase if they can be captured instead.
- As a xeno, don't take too long attacking during the crash phase. The ship can be rigged to explode in twenty minutes, ending the round in a tie.
- As a xeno, remember that neurotox injected by defilers, sentinels, praetorian, and queen can overdose, killing a marine quickly. Try to avoid this when capturing, if they scream in pain they've probably had enough.
- As a xeno, you can use grab intent(Yellow) to start clearing away snow, click three times on very deep snow to remove it entirely and one less for every level lower.
Larva Tips
- As a larva, ask your queen what you should evolve into.
- As a larva, you can slide under unbolted and unwelded doors by clicking on the door.
Drone Tips
- As a drone, your corrosive acid is very weak, but it's better than nothing.
- As a drone, spread weeds as much as you can, especially to the front line fighters.
- As a drone, you've got pheromones that can help the hive.
- As a drone, you have growth accelerator serum, use it to make larva grow quickly.
Runner Tips
- As a runner, plasma gain is halted when you hide.
- As a runner, move in erratic and hard to predict ways to make it harder to be shot.
- As a runner, always prepare multiple ways out of a closed space so you can run away no matter what happens.
- As a runner, get a slash or two on people before they get up when you pounce them, but fall back at least three tiles afterward to line up another pounce and stay safe
- As a runner, you are very squishy. If you have even a slight amount of damage, heal up before you engage any more marines.
- As a runner, reinforced tables three-wide can hide you completely, but be careful of Tactical scanners, signified by a subtle beeping from marines
- As a runner, it may be more beneficial to save your plasma for repeat pounces than using a ton of it for a Savage attack.
- As a runner, if a marine drops his weapon when you pounce him, try to push him away from it when he gets up. If he doesn't have a secondary and you keep him from his gun, your victory is assured.
- As a runner, always be observant for who has a shotgun, one hit from buckshot can instantly crit you.
- As a runner, abuse the fact that marines have a cooldown between shots to get pounces off when they can't fire.
- As a runner, never retreat in a straight line, this makes you easy to shoot off-screen.
- As a runner, you can pounce the moment you leave a pipe, allowing you to get the jump on people before they can react.
- As a runner, if a marine has many friends with him, don't be cocky and get out of sight after a slash or two.
- As a runner, you are far and away the fastest Xeno caste, use your speed for transporting hosts, scouting locations, and preparing the environment for later combat.
- As a runner, you are a T1 who can get in between your fellow Xenos and marines very fast and very well, it may be best to soak bullets to save a dying, more important, caste.
- As a runner, you have the fastest cooldown stun of all the Xenos, if a marine with a fast-firing gun is suppressing the hive, you can pounce him repeatedly to ease his pressure on your allies.
Hivelord Tips
- As a hivelord, you can upgrade existing weaker resin doors and walls by activating them in build mode via middle/shift click.
Carrier Tips
- As a carrier, you can hit a host directly with a thrown facehugger to have a high chance of infecting them near instantly.
- As a carrier, you can hide traps beneath certain objects and items.
Hunter Tips
- As a hunter, you have almost perfect stealth if you stand still.
- As a hunter, your Sneak Attack can be used on [Disarm] intent to do a super-powerful tackle.
- As a hunter, you are can be more transparent when on the [Walk] intent, this can let you be somewhat hard to see even when moving.
- As a hunter, what tile you stand on greatly effects how visible you are. Dark and clustered tiles will greatly hide you, and tiles that are undesirable to move across will decrease the chance of you getting shot.
- As a hunter, stand in places that are near to where people will walk past, but not in places that people will poor suppressing fire through.
- As a hunter, while on [Walk] intent, you can move one tile and slash someone while not losing your Sneak Attack, effectively allowing you to hit anyone in a 5X5 square around you.
- As a hunter, you have high slash damage even without sneak attack, allowing you to hit objects and defenseless marine harder than most.
- As a hunter, you are fast, but nowhere near as fast as a Runner, and your health is only slightly higher than said Runners, making your survivability very, very low in open conflict.
- As a hunter, you can take out most people at the same rate, so try to hit high-value targets like Specialists and Smart Gunners.
- As a hunter, your Sneak Attack has a very high Armor Piercing, so you are one of the few castes that can mess up a B18 equipped marine.
- As a hunter, your Sneak Attack has a good chance to delimb people, aim for the hands and feet to put the marine out of action for a longer time.
- As a hunter, if the hive is under assault, try hiding in the path of the marines and hitting them with a Sneak Attack before running farther up the path to do it again. This will slow them down considerably.
- As a hunter, try to kill or delimb members of the backline, such as Medics and Engineers, to lessen their ability to heal and fortify.
- As a hunter, Tactical Scanners don't detect you when you are in stealth.
- As a hunter, your invisibility can be used for more than getting the jump on marines, use it to scout out the marine's Fortifications or where they are moving to.
- As a hunter, your pounce will put you in [Run} intent, making you more visible but also faster. Don't use it when trying to be sneaky or attacking marines, instead use it as an escape tool.
- As a hunter, you can bind a key to switch movement intents while held. If this key is a key other than [alt], you can use it to toggle between using [Walk] intent to move sneakier and using [Run} intent to get out of dodge, all while still being able to slash and use your pounce.
- As a hunter, you can use your stealth on top of nested hosts and use [alt] + click to view the tile's contents above your chat window, allowing you to Sneak Attack the host when they get up immediately.
Defiler Tips
- As a defiler, your growth accelerator can make more xenos during the crash phase.
Boiler Tips
- As a boiler, you have the most powerful corrosive acid for melting things.
- As a boiler, your shots are more accurate when fired diagonally.
- As a boiler, shots have a small chance to bypass barricades, aim where you want them to land in case this happens.
Praetorian Tips
- As a praetorian, your sticky resin is vastly inferior to that of drones and hivelords.
Ravager Tips
- As a ravager, anytime you take damage you get even more angry, and thus resist more damage.
- As a ravager, you gain more fire resistance the more rage you acquire.
- As a ravager, targeting hands or feet is better to inflict a lot of damage while lunging.
Queen Tips
- As the Queen, you contain the hivemind of all the xenos.
- As the Queen, use hive status to quickly swap between alien 'cameras'.
- As the Queen, you can force larva to grow forcibly during the first two stages, using an ability.
